For freedom
Today I had a picture. I saw a tiny bird in a cage. The bird’s wings were small and ill-developed because it had not had room to fly. But it was a stunning bird. Suddenly the cage door swung open and the bird was released. Instead of flying away, or even attempting to leave the cage, the bird stayed still, motionless, totally fearful of the outside world, unsure what to do.
My friend, it was for freedom that Christ set you free! It’s an obvious point to make, but there is no point in being set free if you are simply going to stay where you are. Why are you remaining in the back of that cage? Why are you attempting life in the apparent safety of the shadows instead of in beautiful, breathtaking freedom?
The other day I passed some workmen laying new cables in a road. They were cutting the old wires and replacing them. As I passed them, a stray dog ran into the road causing me to stop the car. It was only then that I saw their company name on their vans: ‘Freedom.’
My friend, today you need to be cut off from all that hinders and holds you back. You need to lay new cable connecting you to the power source that is Christ. The cage door is open and your freedom awaits. It’s time to try those wings. Don’t worry. He won’t let you fall flat.
It was for freedom that He opened the door and let you go… But He won’t force you out. If He did, that wouldn’t be true freedom, now would it?
