Money laundering
A bracelet owned by Wallis Simpson, whose affair with Edward VIII led to his abdication, has apparently sold for a world record-breaking £4.5m at auction. The Cartier-designed diamond panther bracelet, was sold by Sotheby’s.
It was the most expensive bracelet and most expensive Cartier item to be sold at any auction.
I had a look at it today. It is, in my opinion, utterly disgusting. Seriously horrid. OTT.
Our world values things wrongly.
How can you look at a bracelet and say it is worth spending 4.5 million pounds on whilst whole nations go hungry?
Wake up world!
I have just had a sad conversation with a guy who runs our local pub. He is panicking, like many other small businesses around, about the VAT increases and the loss of trade recently. His TV sports package for the pub costs him £2k alone a month. He is wondering how he will survive into the next year.
Times are hard for many people as we face the ‘winter of our discontent'”¦ but I have such joy in my spirit. Not because I know all the answers, or even all the questions, but because I have a God whose Maths far outweighs mine. He is able to stretch a pound and make it go further. He is able to bring increase where there should be decrease. He can do the opposite of the world trend. He may not always protect businesses from collapse or people from losing out, but He is more than capable of rescuing and releasing people from seemingly impossible situations.
Jon and I have learnt the principle over the years that if God gives to us, we give a tenth or more of that away. So everything we earn and most of what we are given is treated in this way. The blessing of God over this habit has proved to us, time and time again that our riches are not of this world. When we have chosen to bless others, God has chosen to bless us.
I hate money. Even holding it makes me feel dirty. I would quite literally like to launder it to make it clean. But I know our money or our lack of money is safe in God’s hands.
He is my provider. If I need it, He will give it.
I pray today that you know His provision over you in ways that make you joyful too.
