Put down
I’ve had some good ‘put downs’ before. A friend of my mother’s is a novelist. One day we were having lunch together and I joked that I needed to be careful about what I said, in case she wrote me into one of her books.
She smiled at me before saying, “Don’t worry. I don’t find you anywhere near interesting enough to write about you.” Then she carried on with her soup.
Wow! Amazing honesty.
I was praying for someone very recently who asked me afterwards if I had a cold. I did. A little. She said, “I can tell. Your breath really smells.’
Again, amazing honesty.
Sometimes we can use our tongues to make people feel belittled and bewildered. We can open our mouths and open up a can of worms. Or we can bless, encourage, provoke, correct, train, admonish, teach in Godly and inspiring ways.
God will never put you down. In both senses of that phrase.
