Stargazer
“Father Abraham had many sons…” as the song goes.
I have long admired this 70 year old man who had his life turned utterly upside down by a God who asked him to look at some stars and from that, proclaimed this pensioner without children as a man who would father an entire nation.
Abraham’s mind””and following that his whole life””was so arrested and redirected by God’s revelation of Himself that he responded dramatically. He knew that he could no longer live as he had for the past 70 years. He had to make changes, and some of them would be considerable and costly. God told him to go, and He went. Note that God did not actually say where. Which one of us would pack our bags, our possessions and our partners into the car on hearing the word ‘Go!’ without pausing to ask God for the postcode of the destination? Not me pal.
Abraham is a huge Biblical example of raw faith. After this revelation of God he could no longer live for himself. He could no longer perceive people as he had all his life. He could no longer think of his God in the same way. A new man was being created from within, so he had to make a clean and permanent break from his old life. His life now had a new dream to pursue. He had a new direction, a new relationship, new desires, and new requirements to fulfil.
He was going to be a DAD!
He was going to be responsible for raising children. That zimmer frame would have to wait.
Looking at the stars with God led to an entire people coming into being.
As I write, it is pitch black outside. But very cloudy. I can’t see a single star… but I can sense the promise of God over my life that I will ‘parent’ some special and amazing people and some special and amazing projects for God.
What do you see when you ‘look up?’ Don’t write yourself off as too young, too old, too set in your ways, too quiet, too loud, too flawed or too whatever to be part of God’s plans. A new journey may well be ahead.
